Sommeltjespad Expedition
A discovery trail for young children in the forest
Behind our hotel, in the nature of the Dunes of Texel National Park, lies the Sommeltjespad: a discovery trail for young children in the forest. Sommeltjes are, according to Texel's legend, small earth spirits or trolls that lived on Texel long ago. As soon as the moon appeared, the living creatures went to the Sommeltjesberg. In the morning, upon seeing the sun, they turned into stone. Along the 1.5-kilometer walking route, children can search for Sommeltjes. But look around carefully and discover much more than just stone figures!
FELICES PIEDRAS
It has become a phenomenon during the coronavirus era; Happy Stones, also known as Sommeltjes. A Happy Stone is a stone that has been beautifully painted by someone and then placed somewhere to make the finder happy. If you find such a stone, you can take it home, or place it somewhere else to bring a moment of happiness to someone else.
JOIN IN!
We love that the entire island of Texel is adorned with Happy Toucan Stones. Will you join us? Place your decorated stone, painted or drawn with a toucan on it, along the Sommeltjespad or another location on the island. Share this on Facebook and/or Instagram with the hashtag #toucanexpeditiontexel (optionally supplemented with the location and tag @valktexel). Also do this if you have found a Happy Toucan stone and have repositioned it elsewhere. We will regularly reshare fun posts and raffle off beautiful prizes among the creators of the creative Happy Toucan Stones on Texel.
