Did you know that the Texel lighthouse is the only lighthouse in the Netherlands where you can see the sea from three sides? The 47-meter high tower is located at the most dangerous sea passage in the Netherlands. On a clear day, you can see the UNESCO World Heritage site Wadden Sea, Vlieland, Wieringen, and Den Helder. To enjoy the panoramic view from the Texel lighthouse, located at the northernmost point of the island, you have to climb six floors of the tower. Not in the mood for climbing? Then take a leisurely walk through the dunes around the lighthouse or enjoy the red beacon along the coastline during a stroll on the beach.

Visiting the Texel Lighthouse

The lighthouse is open all year round, but the opening days and times vary depending on the season. After climbing 118 steps, a magnificent view awaits. A reasonable level of fitness is necessary to climb the six steep spiral staircases. Dogs and strollers are not allowed. There is no elevator in the tower, but the path to the lighthouse is wheelchair accessible, allowing wheelchair users to reach the lighthouse.
