Sustainability at Van der Valk Texel De Koog

At Van der Valk Texel, we are committed to a more sustainable future and keen to treat our planet with awareness. We are proud to share with you our ongoing sustainability efforts and initiatives.

Electricity grid Texel

On Texel, the electricity grid has reached its maximum capacity. These developments affect our power consumption. We are working hard to solve this problem on Texel. In 2024, we hope to have clarity on any additional space regarding energy.

A new electricity distribution station is being built on Texel for additional capacity on the island. This station is not expected to be commissioned until the end of 2025 at the earliest.

This is why, as Van der Valk Hotel Texel-De Koog, we do our best to be as flexible as possible with our energy consumption. Should you have any questions, please contact our reception at any time. (For more information, please visit liander.nl).

Gas-free future and 'Afval goed geregeld'

Thanks to recent renovations, we have disconnected our cooling and heating system from gas, so we have already taken an important step towards a more sustainable energy source. We will also launch the initiative, 'Afval goed geregeld', from September 2023 to effectively separate and reduce waste in the workplace. We believe that taking responsibility for our waste contributes to a cleaner and healthier environment.

Your commitment for sustainability

We appreciate your commitment to sustainability. That's why we offer our guests the Green Option: a choice to skip room cleaning via the tablet in your room. By working together, we can reduce unnecessary use of resources.

Towels and ecological cleaning products

In our bathrooms, we follow an eco-friendly policy regarding towels. Towels placed on the floor are replaced, while towels on hooks indicate that you want to reuse them. Moreover, we work with ecological cleaning products (from Hygeniq).

Including employment and carbon neutrality

Our commitment goes beyond environmental issues. With our 'Open Hiring' policy, we employ people without interviews or background checks. This initiative provides opportunities for people who are struggling to find work and contributes to an inclusive society. Moreover, we are delighted to be carbon neutral and do our bit to reduce our carbon footprint.

Food waste and green lighting

We take measures to reduce food waste with the help of our Cool-Spot, an innovative refrigerated cabinet that preserves the freshness of products. We also use LED lighting and presence sensors to save energy without compromising on quality and comfort.

Promoting electric driving

As a pioneer on Texel, we introduced the first fast charger to promote electric driving. We want to play a role in the transition to more sustainable forms of transport and aim to inspire others to do the same.

Together we are striving for a greener future, and we invite you to be part of our efforts.
